• Out With the Old, In With the…..Nothing?!?

For those of you who know me well you know this girl loves fashion and loves to shop. Ever since nesting hit in full force around 7 months of being preggers I have felt the ongoing need to keep things as simple and clutter free as possible. It started with purging my house of color and knick-knacks, organizing every cabinet and closet, getting rid of anything that I didn’t use on a regular basis and extended all the way down into giving my wardrobe a complete overhaul. Since I’ve become a mom my priorities have shifted and I don’t have as much time to style myself the way I used to. That and the fact that I need to dress in a more simple and functional way to accommodate breastfeeding and just constantly being on the go. Before the boy, happiness was a closet stuffed full of clothes and never wearing the same thing twice. Now happiness is a clean and simple, clutter free rack filled with basics AND figuring out how to wear *gasp* the same thing a zillion different ways. While I haven’t reached the “40 hanger closet” goal yet (as seen HERE) I am well on my way. I have dramatically simplified my wardrobe and was able to get rid of over half of what I used to have. One of the unexpected perks is that I truly feel like I have so much more to wear. Those days of trying on everything I own only to end with a mountain of clothes on my bed and strewn across the floor, lamenting to the hubby in sweatpants, “I have NOTHING to wear!” are over.  I couldn’t be happier with my new wardrobe and not only can I get ready so much faster but I feel even more stylish than before. The following are just a few tips and tricks that helped me to achieve this goal.

    1) If you haven’t worn it in a year GET RID OF IT! If it’s been 6 months seriously consider discarding the item.

2)Pick out your basics and things you wear all of the time and set them aside.

3)Anything left over go thru and honestly decide what you actually are going to use…..if it doesn’t fit or it’s something you don’t absolutely LOVE…. lose it!

4)Decide what your overall style is and go thru everything you have decided to keep once again and get rid of anything that doesn’t work into the aesthetic you are going for.

The following are a few of the basics I felt were essential for my wardrobe:

    One pair black trousers

Two pairs of jeans, dark and light wash

    Classic white oxford shirt

T shirts and tanks in gray, black and white

Nice pair of skinny joggers that can be worn out.

    A few oversized, chunky sweaters

    Boyfriend cardi

    Oversized scarf

    Black pencil skirt

    Maxi and midi dress

    Black blazer

    Classic sneakers

    Black heels

    Booties in black and brown

    Pointed toe flats

A few of my go-to basics

Add a few unique pieces and accessories that personify your individual style and there you have it! A pared down wardrobe of easy to mix and match basic, separate pieces that is not only going to simplify your life but help you to have a more put together and deliberate style. Enjoy that new wardrobe and remember that in this case less IS actually so much more!
