I cheated today. Again………on my capsule wardrobe. I have a really good excuse, I promise, so hear me out first! My journey with a capsule wardrobe began last fall. I packed for a 3 week vacation and decided to try a vacation capsule. I brought just 11 pieces and fell so in love that I came home, cleaned out my closet and have been a capsule girl ever since. Winter and fall I used a wardrobe consisting of under 3 pieces and never felt like I had too little to wear or that I wore the same thing over and over again. In fact I was shocked that, by the end of the season, there were actually a few pieces I’d only worn once or twice! This spring I unpacked all my spring and summer clothes and got rid of everything except for my current 24 piece spring capsule. That is…..almost everything. Here comes the cheating part. I have kept a small number of dresses and skirts separate from my capsule and on some days, I even wear them!
It’s not that I don’t love my capsule wardrobe anymore or that it’s losing the appeal it first had. In fact, I love it even more than when I first started capsule living last fall. I use it most days and most days, it’s a total lifesaver! I did not choose to keep the extra clothes because I felt like I didn’t have enough options with the capsule, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Read more about that here. While I got rid of an embarrassing amount of clothes (I still can’t comprehend how or why I had soooo many) including pieces that were expensive and or extremely sentimental, I couldn’t bring myself to get rid of items that fit capsule rules (must be my current size, must be flattering, in good condition and something that I truly love AND actually wear on a regular basis) simply because they didn’t coordinate with my existing capsule. So on days I have a little extra time and energy……..I cheat…… and grab one of my extra pieces and mix things up a bit. So yes, today was a cheat day, but I mean, can you really blame me with a dress this cute?!?
