• All Things Dexter…17 Months

So this month Dex is 17 months and man this stage is hard….I mean, all of them have been hard in their own ways but this particular one is…really…HARD. But for all its hardness there are still so many precious and wonderful new moments and memories being made. Here are just a few from this past month.

-New words: “Don’t touch” and “Nooo Nooo” (I’m sure I won’t always love him saying ‘no’ but right now when he says it and shakes his little finger it’s pretty stinkin adorable)

-First thing when he wakes up he runs and one by one brings me all of the things he isn’t allowed to play with. The remotes, daddy’s glasses, my glass of water next to the bed. He proudly says “tanks!” after handing me each item. He doesn’t quite grasp the concept yet but hey I’ll take it!

-Big opened armed hugs that include a lot of back patting and rubbing.

-When we say prayer before dinner he holds each of our hands and curiously looks back and forth at each of our faces and giggles.

-Whenever going most places these days he insists on holding both  mommy and daddy’s hands.

-Everyday must start with a big good morning kiss for the dog.

One of my favorite sounds in the world right now is the rapid puttering of his little feet running thru the house. He is such an insanely active and energetic child so this noise is pretty much non-stop. I guess its a good thing that I love it so much. Yesterday he was entertaining himself while I was cooking and unexpectedly ran from the other room making his kissy noise (MMMmmmmm) all the way into the kitchen where he ran into my arms and gave me the biggest unsolicited kiss he’s ever given me to date. It’s moments of sheer blinding love like those that make the hard days worth it. Those days full of tantrums and screaming, those days that end in frustration and utter exhaustion. Those days that end with him peacefully asleep while I hide in a corner to cry, but for a moment as sweet as that kiss, I’d do it all a thousand times over.
